God did not have to contend with or challenge any man or woman to create the universe. He did not have to make war with the sun, moon and the stars for you to inhabit the earth. He fashioned you and everything else effortlessly and with no guilt. No wonder He could gaze back at the work of His hands and exclaim He was glad all things He made was good. Genesis 1:31
Competition is a contest between individuals for honour, a prize, terrain, a niche, an advantage or resources. It is rivalry for supremacy. It is about wanting to get ahead of others. It is true that we live in a competitive world where people compete everyday for numerous reasons. Nevertheless, the most excellent person you must compete as an individual is you. Ask yourself ‘What must I do to move from crawling and leaping to walking, running and jumping?’ Improve yourself, your character and skills and shine at your best. That is healthy competition.
Competition becomes unhealthy and a vice when we push aside, undermine or tear down others on the way. This sort often stems from a voracious, ravenousness, covetous and spiteful heart .It can be very detrimental to a man’s health and well-being. Philippians 2:3-4 encourages us to ‘do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.’
You don’t need a selfish, injurious competitive spirit in order to accomplish something that is of worth. It is appropriate we look at others altruistically, gain knowledge from them so we can be enthused and encouraged to work smarter at achieving our goals and fulfilling destiny. Use other people’s faux pas and failings to make your own journey and experience better. After all, God is never going to measure our progress based on Obama, Donald Trump, TD Jakes or the man on the street’s deeds. We may have similar gifts, abilities or skills with the next person, but we do not have the same brain and mind. You cannot have my mind and I cannot have your mind. However, we can bring our thoughts and ideas together for a productive and worthy cause.
Zealously wanting to progress is great when it involves enhancing the quality of our own life but trying to get ahead by downplaying or stealing away someone’s else’s position is deceitful and unjust .Today, just be you.Fulfill your purpose without having to step on or eliminate anyone. Live your dreams with passion .Make the best of every day and the good opportunities that opens up to you. You don’t need to fight for a crown or award or even kill others because you want life to be all about you. Don’t stoop so low and degrade who you are out of a selfish competitive spirit. Put in your best in all you do so you can garner peace of mind and stillness both on the inside and on the outside. If you are assiduous in what you do, God will surely elevate you further than your expectations. He will bring along the recognition, awards and accolades you so desire. Don’t risk your future and destiny with unwholesome, unnecessary competition. Just be you.
”We are each like notes of music acting in phrases and when conscious of our grace and balance forming melodies and symphonies with others and everything around us, outer actions, reflections of our state of consciousness from the underlying harmony, the best of ourselves comes forth” Susan Kramer
